Midway Point Update
We had a fantastic first two nights of our Summer Track Circuit! Thank you to everyone who participated! As for our family, we couldn't have enjoyed it more. We had an amazing atmosphere of participants who came to have fun and lay it all out on the track. It's a lot of fun to compete in a low stakes environment, to just see how do and improve.
So far this meet has allowed us to connect with old friends, and make new ones. It's given kids a chance to see their parents, and grandparents(!) race. Parents can race with their kids, siblings with each other, and friends side by side.
Highlights included 88 year old David Dalebout being our oldest participant. At 88 years he's still able to move really well! In fact, he was there early getting a few laps in as a warm up while I was setting up the camera!
Olympian, and professional athlete, Jared Ward joined us with his amazing family, and set a cool meet record in the 1600m (4:29) and the 5000m (15:58, pacing another athlete).
Several meet records are now held by kids under 12. 6 year old Reese Wilcox, and 11 year old Mary Hilton. The Bennett family has a host of records to their name as well.
Our exclusive Jogger's Mile Champion club grew by 5 members yesterday, up to 8 total, with 3 hitting their time EXACTLY right. Amazing.
The kids 50m and family 1-lap relay proved to be the pinnacle events. At any given time during the youngest kids' races you can see crowds of parents and spectators rushing the finish line and sidelines to see their kids and friends run. When the family 1-lap relay is announced, nearly the entire stadium is down there to get set up, it's a beautiful sight.
In short, we hope you have enjoyed the first two installments of the meet, and we are looking forward to what is to come. We hope to continue to grow so that more people have the chance to enjoy this amazing sport and community.
Looking ahead
We are hoping to have medals for all of our elementary age kids and below. We will have a t shirt for our oldest participant at each race, and we hope our Jogger's Mile can increase both in popularity, and success rate. So far it's proven difficult enough that only a handful of people have managed to slay that dragon.
If you want to set a 5k PR, we hope to have people available to help pace you through portions of the race (the faster you are, the shorter that portion haha).
We want to see a 4x100 break the 50s barrier, and a 4x400 go under 4 minutes.
